An amazing soaring day - strong thermals with a cloudbase of ~9200’. Thanks to Milt for towing and Scott for instructing and giving guest rides.

Report from Scott:

13 flights total today. Sugar, the 1-26 and the 103 flew. Three private ships flew. Joe Simmers almost made it to Ft. Wayne. Kaz launched at 1pm and was still up when we closed up around 6pm. Leroy Johnston flew his annual check out with Scott. There were two guest rides in the 103. The second guest ride made it to 9200ft MSL. We had sustained lift around 800fpm from about 1pm on. Only one solo student showed up. It would have been an amazing day to fly. Thanks to Milt for all the tows.

Report from Kaz:

I flew to Springfield. The cus started dying at 5p, so I turned around to head back to KMNN. Managed to get VFR flight following for 10 minutes with Columbus Approach over KMRT before they lost the fiberglass ship. I gave them a block of altitude I’d be flying at and sometimes they would ask my present altitude. My route was KMNN->5E9->KMRT->I74->Springfield->KMNN. My turn back point was 56nm from Marion. Reached 9700ft MSL (my toes froze). Took off at 1p. Landed at 8p when the thermals died. Thanks Milt for towing, Scott for instructing, and Corso for helping. I hope the guest rides enjoyed themselves. Great job Phaedra on your 2-hour flight in the L-33! That’s awesome.
