Quite a few members and students came out for some great Memorial Day soaring—17 flights in total. The day started out fairly overcast , but patches of blue sky started showing themselves as the day progressed. John towed in the morning and Sheryl took 2nd shift in the afternoon. Most of the club’s gliders were flown—Sugar, Red Baron, School Bus, and the Grob-103. There were tight thermals early-mid afternoon with strong lift of 400-500 FPM. By 4:30-5pm-ish they started to dissipate as thick, high cirrus clouds moved in. Longest flight of the day was a little over 1 hr. Another great day of soaring in Marion.
